The Chief Executive officer of Ngetta Tropical Holdings Paul Omara has said the introduction of data management and electronic payment systems to the farmers’ cooperatives will enhance the company’s vision of transforming the rural agriculture in northern Uganda for a better livelihood and economic empowerment of the farmers.
Speaking during a training workshop organised by Ngetta Tropical Holdings in collaboration with MobiPay AgroSys Ltd for over 80 mobilizers and chair persons of 33 oil seed producing cooperatives at Grand Pacific Hotel Lira on Monday, Paul Omara says the digital application “Ngetta-MobiPay Agrobase platform” will amongst others help in paying directly farmers who supply grains to NTH on their individual accounts by means of mobile money.
The system which also stores all data including production and transactional records will also help farmer’s access finances to increase production and propel their growth and economic development.
Omara says Ngetta Tropical Holdings now sits on a pinnacle to transform farmer’s livelihood in Northern Uganda thanks to the organizational capacity of cooperatives. The partnership between MobiPay and Ngetta Tropical is expected to cover over 24,000 farmers in both Lango and Acholi sub regions.
Speaking at the same training the chairperson board of MobiPay, Rev Fr. Dr Robert Omara asked the cooperative leaders to use the technology to aid their development. Fr Dr Omara also underscored the need for working with organized groups.
Ngetta MobiPay platform is an agribusiness system providing digital financial inclusion services to the day to day activities in the agriculture sector.
The sysyem is a web based application meaning it can be accessed using a web browser such as Google chrome,Mozila firefox,Opera,Safari,Internet Exploer etc. It will help in registering farmers,carry out purchase of sunflower,carry out payment,initiate a payment schedule,create user and user group.
